Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo: Is It Worth It? A Visit Guide

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo sits inside The Dubai Mall in Downtown Dubai, the same district as Burj Khalifa. It is one of the easiest big attractions to fit into a city day: there is no transfer to plan, it is fully indoors and it works for almost every age. The question most visitors ask is simple. Is it worth buying a ticket, or is it just another mall attraction?

This guide answers that with what our ticket page lists: what you see, what the standard ticket covers, which experiences cost extra, how long to allow and how to plan a visit with children. We checked every fact on 25 October 2026. We do not quote opening hours here because they can change; check them on the ticket page on the day you go.

Is Dubai Aquarium worth it?

Yes, for most first-time visitors, families and anyone who wants a calm, indoor break from the heat. The standard ticket gives you a walk through a 48-metre tunnel with 270-degree views of sharks, rays and fish, plus the Underwater Zoo, all in about two hours.

It is worth it in particular if:

  • You are travelling with children aged 2 and up and want an easy, accessible outing.

  • You are already at The Dubai Mall or Burj Khalifa and want to add one more attraction without travel.

  • You want an indoor plan for the hottest part of the day.

It may be less essential if you have recently visited another very large aquarium and only have a few hours in Dubai. In that case, you may prefer to put your time into a viewpoint or a desert trip instead.

What is Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo?

It is a large suspended aquarium and a separate zoo of aquatic animals, both inside The Dubai Mall. Our ticket page describes it as one of the world's largest suspended aquariums, with more than 33,000 aquatic animals and a main tank of 10 million litres.

The attraction has two parts. The aquarium is the giant tank with its walk-through tunnel. The Underwater Zoo is a set of themed areas with smaller habitats and different species. The standard ticket covers both, so you do not need to choose.

What can you see in the aquarium tunnel?

You see sharks, rays and schools of exotic fish swimming around and above you. The tunnel is 48 metres long and gives 270-degree views, so much of the tank is visible over your head as well as at your sides.

The tank holds more than 300 sharks and rays. According to our ticket page, it also has one of the world's largest collections of sand tiger sharks. Walk slowly: the animals move all the time, and a second pass through the tunnel often shows you species you missed the first time.

What lives in the Underwater Zoo?

The Underwater Zoo is home to penguins, giant crocodiles, seahorses, piranhas and crabs, among many other creatures. It is a different experience from the tunnel: instead of one huge tank, you move between separate habitats, each with its own animals.

Allow enough time here. If you spend too long in the tunnel, you may have to rush the zoo at the end of your visit.

What does the standard ticket include?

The standard ticket includes admission to Dubai Aquarium, access to the Underwater Zoo and the aquarium tunnel experience. It does not include food and drinks, transfers, or optional encounters and activities.

That last point matters. Encounters and activities are not part of the standard entry, so decide before you go whether you want one of them.

Which extra experiences can you add?

You can add paid experiences such as the Penguin Encounter, the Ray Encounter and a glass-bottom boat ride. Our ticket page also mentions an Explorer Pass that includes the glass-bottom boat ride, and lists shark diving among the activities offered inside the attraction.

None of these are in the standard ticket. If one of them is the reason you are going, check what each option includes and book it ahead, rather than assuming you can add it at the door.

Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo tickets

The standard ticket covers the aquarium, the 48-metre tunnel and the Underwater Zoo, with more than 33,000 aquatic animals in total. Our page lists an average visit of 1.5 to 2.5 hours, and tickets are required for all visitors aged 2 and above.

Current prices and availability are on the ticket page.

How long does a visit take, and when should you go?

Plan for 1.5 to 2.5 hours. That is enough for the tunnel, the Underwater Zoo and a few stops to watch the animals without rushing.

Weekdays are less crowded than weekends, so choose a weekday if your plans allow. Because the attraction is indoors, it also suits the hottest hours of the day, when outdoor plans are less comfortable. For current opening times, check the ticket page or The Dubai Mall website on the day of your visit.

Is Dubai Aquarium good for kids?

Illustration of a child at a touch pool with starfish and small rays

Yes, it is one of the most family-friendly attractions in Downtown Dubai. The whole facility is designed to be accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, and the mix of the tunnel and the zoo keeps the visit varied for young children.

A few rules to know before you book:

  • Every visitor aged 2 and above needs a ticket.

  • Children under 15 must be with an adult.

  • Visitors aged 15 and over count as adults.

  • Comfortable shoes, such as sneakers, are recommended for children.

What should you bring and wear?

Bring a valid ID or passport and your ticket confirmation, either on your phone or printed. Wear comfortable, casual clothes.

You can take photos and videos with your own devices, but flash is not allowed, to protect the animals. Turn your flash off before you enter the tunnel, and check it again before the Underwater Zoo.

What can you combine with the aquarium nearby?

The easiest pairing is Burj Khalifa At the Top, which is in the same Downtown area. You can also plan shops, dining and the fountain area around your visit with our Dubai Mall guide. If you are driving, read our Burj Khalifa parking guide first.

For more ideas below the surface, see our article on underwater adventures in Dubai. If your trip includes the capital, The National Aquarium Abu Dhabi is a different attraction in another emirate, so do not mix the two up when booking.

Burj Khalifa At the Top tickets

The standard At the Top ticket covers Levels 124 and 125, with an observation terrace at 452 metres, telescopes on Level 124 and exhibits on Arab arts and culture on Level 125. Our page lists an average visit of 1 to 2 hours, and the ticket is valid only for the date and time slot you choose.

Current prices and availability are on the ticket page.
